When I first decided to cloth diaper I knew the hardest part about getting started would be getting my husband on board. Let’s face it, the only not-so-fun part about having a baby is changing diapers. Nobody ever says,” I love changing a good poopy diaper.”
At first he was pretty hesitant about it, but he said that as long as he didn’t have to do the laundry, he would support whatever I wanted to do. Now almost six months in to cloth diapering, I thought I’d check-in with him to see how his perceptions about cloth diapering have changed.
Here’s my Q&A with him for your enjoyment:
Q. What did you really think when I told you I wanted to cloth diaper?
A. I thought you were nuts. You told me about all the benefits – environment, financial, emotional. You know I’ll support you in whatever you want to do, especially when it comes to the health of our children, so it was really your call. I knew once you made up your mind I couldn’t change it.
Q. How did you feel the first time you changed a cloth diaper?
A. I was a little confused at first, but once I got the snaps to line up the way I wanted them to I didn’t think it was so hard. Now that I’ve been doing it a lot it’s very easy. As long as I’m not the one changing the elastic for size (inside our FuzziBunz), we’re okay.
Q. Do you appreciate the cost savings?
A. Yes! I know you had mentioned that there would be a financial benefit to the whole thing, but then you started buying cloth diapers and I was like wait a minute. Now that we are stocked up and don’t have to run out and buy a box of disposables every week I really see where we save.
Q. What do you like the most about cloth diapering?
A. Saving money. Ha! No, I like that we are doing something good for our baby’s health and well-being.
Q. What do you like the least about cloth diapering?
A. I still think it can be a bit stinky. Especially when you get behind on the wash. It’s definitely not the same smell as a [disposable] diaper pail, but it’s not odor-free.
Q. If we had another kid would you cloth diaper him/her?
A. Trick question. We are done!
