My mom gave me Always pads and eventually Tampax tampons to use … and I've never strayed for fear of something unexpected happening. But after CDing for almost a year, I am ready to try mama cloth; ready to help my body, the earth, and our budget. The concept of a cup is very appealing but scary to me … but now that I stay home, maybe I'll be more brave to try one out.

I started really early before I had the period talk with my mom on my birthday turning 8 I think and only 3rd/4th grader having to take a pouch to bathroom for a week every month was enough humiliation with especially all the boys asking why I needed to bring it with me to the bathroom or what it contained. I was at home but have had embarrassing moments though at like camps and leaks... I started to use cloth diapers and thought couldn't I use something like this too to save money and sometimes just used diapers for the stress incontinence so I switched to cloth pads a gal on Ebay made that is tryingtosavemoney id, I think. Some varied in size but overall I think great price and work same as disposable pads. There are different ones people make or buy online and to me they all work well.Tampons never fit especially after babies. I just throw all my pads in with diapers and it is nice and I think absorb just fine.

I have never heard about a cup let a lone how to use one.

I hate the idea of "the talk" on anything. Our approach with sex, menstruation, and other body changes, has been to address questions as they come up or as the situation presents itself.

I have a five year old daughter and I've talked to her about menstruation before. Yesterday, she was in the bathroom at home when it was time for me to empty my Diva Cup. I told her again about menstruation, she asked a few questions, and then I asked her if she wanted to see what the cup and blood look like. She did. So I showed her how I remove, empty/clean, and reinsert the Diva Cup.

My mom used my sample pack they gave us at school and didn't tell me. So when the day came, I had nothing to use b/c she only used tampons and I had no idea what to do with those. I waited for 4 hours waiting for her to get home from work while trying very uneffectively to use TP.

I have always seemed to have issues down there and kept going back to the doctor thinking I had some sort of infection. I finally realized that I just have really really sensitive skin and since I started using mamma cloth, I haven't had a single issue. I made my own out of PUL, flannel and cotton velour. I was shocked at how comfortable they are. Wish I had known about this years ago! I don't tell people about it anymore, though, I am the only person I know in my circle that uses it and get treated pretty horrifically when I mention it. People are so disgusted by it. But, oh well, what are you gonna do? I love it and plan on doing this until I don't need to anymore.

to be honest Ive tried a cup like this not this one exactly and it wasnt for me... I did however make some of my own cloth pads and they work beautifully I have to change them a little more often but I love not having to buy a chemical laden pad and I know what is in my pads. It works for me its super easy and if youve cloth diapers cloth padding is easy or vice versa I did the pads first so I knew diapering wouldnt be too difficult.

My mom prepared me so well that when I started at age 11 while babysitting I just found a pad and used it. I don't think I told her til the next day. She had me get used to pads first and I think in 7th grade I started using tampons. I think she worried about TSS and wanted to make sure I'd remember to change them frequently.

My experience was similar to yours, except I was 11 and terrified...was I dying? I waited all day to tell my mom. Finally I brought it up. She instantly realized that she'd waited a tad too long to have "the talk". She sat me right down, told me all about it, and then drove to the store and bought about 5 different brands of pads so I could try them all. That was right when pads first started being individually wrapped in cute little packages. So my mom was really cool about it and all was good, but I spent one day as a terrified little girl! My daughter already knows all about periods (she's 6) so hopefully we'll avoid the repeat. :)
