….except apparently me. Because I love mine. You know, “The Cup”. For MEN-STRU-A-TION (said like my 5th grade Sex Ed teacher said it).
Okay, I’ve been using mine for a over a year now, but when I FIRST heard of “The Cup”, I heard it with the dun-dun-DUUUNNNNNN!!!! scary music after it. I mean, who DOES that? Well, now I do.
I first tried the Diva Cup, and you know… it was kind of an epic failure for the first couple of months. And the kind of frustrating thing about it was that you had to wait a whole month to try again if you couldn’t get it right. But the funny thing was, I started really looking FORWARD to that horrible Aunt Flo visiting. I *WANTED* to try again. But I used my mama cloth (seriously, if you’re not even using THAT at this point, you need to get on the ball) as backup, and at least the Diva Cup was doing SOMETHING, although that backup was needed.
Well, so I thought I’d try a different cup- so I got a Lunette. A pretty, green Lunette. And VOILA!!! That was the turning point between “I gotta make this work somehow!” and “Oh my gosh, it WORKS!” The Lunette was just a better fit for me. The rim is more rigid, and apparently that’s what was missing with the Diva (although the Diva works for MOST women).
I have a tilted uterus- I know you wanted to know this- so yeah… some cups are better for this anomaly than others. And I love my Lunette. And yes, it is hard to get used to using a cup- you can’t be squeamish, you just have to jump in with both feet. And it’s pretty darn intriguing, too, when it actually works. You’ll have to trust me on this, because I don’t want to get too graphic.
Of course there’s the environmental reason to use “the cup”- no tampons or disposable pads being wasted. Of course there’s the cost thing to keep in mind- not having to buy said pads/tampons every month. But even putting those things aside, I’d pick my cup hands-down for handling that not-so-fun time of the month. But it’s truly one of things you have to try to believe- so do it!
