5 Positive Things of Advanced Maternal Age

5 Positive Things of Advanced Maternal Age

I am 43 years old and almost 16 weeks pregnant. I always wanted another child but quite honestly after reaching the age of 40 I pretty much resigned myself to the thought that it wasn’t going to happen. Also, at the beginning of being 42 I was a divorced, single Mom with no prospects in the near future. Quite honestly, after the high-conflict post divorce I swore to myself that “I would NEVER get married again”. I remember a good friend in early spring of 2016 asking me if I would ever considering marrying and I immediately said a big, bold “NO!” Fast forward 6 weeks and BAM…it happened… a wonderful man I met at church. AMAZING! WHIRLWIND! LOVE! In a snap I was married..so in love and so happy.  We both realized that there was a slim chance of getting pregnant and really didn’t give any thought to contraception. As many 40+ years, menstrual cycles are often irregular but this time I was beyond several days late and took a pregnancy test….and it was POSITIVE! SHOCKED. SCARED. HAPPY. MIXED EMOTIONS! My oldest child is now 19 years old and I … Continue reading

9 Things That Have Helped Me During the Darkest Time in my Life

9 Things That Have Helped Me During the Darkest Time in my Life

It has been a very, very long year and as you can see by the lack of activity of the blog many of you thought I had disappeared. In March 2015 I was confronted with a very long, trying, and emotional legal case that involved my x-husband. Due to confidentiality and anonymity I won’t be disclosing names within my posts. First of all in one year’s time I can honestly say that I am in such a better place. When something tragic or trying comes your way it can literally emotionally and physically beat you down. In July 2015 I decided to take some extended time off from work, from my blog, and completely concentrate on my family and the new legal situation I was in. I had to approach this new situation with delicacy and grace as it involved my son who I love so dearly. This post won’t go into details, rants, hate messages, or anything similar; if anything I have learned to pray for my x-husband and I truly hope he finds happiness and peace. I am just going to write from my heart on what has … Continue reading

Simplifying the Entire Cloth Diapering Process

Simplifying the Entire Cloth Diapering Process

As I look back over the past 14 years of experience in the cloth diaper industry I am amazed how the industry has changed and I have to admit things were a bit easier ‘way back when’. I mean easier in that there were fewer choice of cloth diapers to choose from and a much more basic approach in regards to recommendations on cloth diaper washing. I apologize in advance if I offend anyone but I do get a laugh out of some of the ‘stories’ I have heard about washing and care of cloth diapers: ‘Stripping’ diapers in the dishwasher. Using dishwasher detergent in washing machine to wash diapers. Adding 3 or more ‘non-laundry’ ingredients to wash diapers. Micro-waving wet (but clean) cloth diapers to ‘destroy’ bacteria.…and on and on….and on! The endless hours and hours and hours of obsessing about washing cloth diapers on multiple forums.  I admit I can get carried away with the reading…I think we would all be shocked if we could some how add up the endless hours of ‘cloth diaper washing drama’ that we read and/or participated in. I was pleased yesterday when … Continue reading

Kelly Wels, Owner of Green Team Distribution, Looking for Natural Products Retailers to Complete Industry Survey

Kelly Wels, Owner of Green Team Distribution, Looking for Natural Products Retailers to Complete Industry Survey

SOUTH PARIS, Maine, March 11, 2015 / — To better understand the state of the natural products retail industry, Green Team Distribution is collecting responses for its inaugural survey, What Natural Products Companies Want. The eco-friendly sales distribution company is looking to survey up to 100 eco-friendly retailers to better understand their marketing habits, revenue streams, and the opportunities and challenges they face in the year ahead. Retailers can complete the 10-minute survey at this link: https://aytm.com/r6ad06a. Kelly Wels, the owner and founder of Green Team Distribution, says having a better understanding of the perceptions of this unique slice of the retailer pie will help manufacturers, sales distribution companies, and retailers gauge where they stand among their industry peers and how they can improve their businesses. “I encourage all retailers who carry natural products to consider taking 10 minutes out of their busy days to share their thoughts, perceptions and insights on our industry. The more retailers who fill out the questionnaire, the more helpful the insights will be for everyone,” says Wels, who will make the results publicly available to industry professionals later this year. As an incentive for completing … Continue reading

How Cloth Diapers are Superior to Commercialized Disposables

How Cloth Diapers are Superior to Commercialized Disposables

How Cloth Diapers are Superior to Commercialized Disposables Commercials will go out of their way to promote a way of living in order to make you think that you simply cannot function without that object. Disposable diaper companies are no different. It is the company’s purpose to make as much money as it can through exploiting an everyday fact of life. Babies need diapers. However, there is more to cloth diapers than these companies want you to realize. If more people understood the value of a cloth diaper, these companies would see massive losses to stock. 1. Cost Efficient – By investing in reusable cloth diapers, you could essential save thousands of dollars over the cost of disposables in the long run. If you have children that are only one or two years apart, you could be buying diapers for up to five years or more. When you consider that each box of name brand disposable diapers can run you $20 to $25 each multiplied by every week or two, the savings is amazing. For what you spend on a few weeks supply of “Huggies,” you could diaper your children for … Continue reading

The Toughest Cloth Diapers Around

The Toughest Cloth Diapers Around

I have been abusing my cloth diaper stash for years. GASP! Kelly Wels did what?  I’ll let you in on a secret….I purposely put my cloth diaper stash to the test when I cloth diapered my son Riley. Now..I DO NOT endorse using “said” products. I use the phrase “Don’t Try This At Home!” (Don’t Try This at Home, a phrase used in the media to advise against imitating a dangerous activity.) I have used: Chlorine Bleach, Vinegar, Febreeze, Bac-out, and a host of other “non-eco-friendly” products on my cloth diaper stash.  My purpose in doing so was determine what was the toughest cloth diaper around. When I owned a cloth diaper business I needed to know what diapering products were “tough”.  Again, I have to stress I don’t endorse using any of these products. Chlorine Bleach…well I used that one with reckless abandon. My entire stash was composed of all brands and styles and I washed a load of cloth diapers approximately every 3 days. I am in the process of putting together a few boxes of cloth diapers to donate to Giving Diapers, Giving Hope and here are … Continue reading
